Der Dritte Raum
Mark Divo, Clare Goodwin, Andrea Thal feat. g.rizo, Publish and be damned
February 18 2006
Framed by a performance by Andrea Thal featuring New York singer g.rizo and a very particular buffet by Clare Goodwin, a new space of the Kunsthalle will be presented to the audience: Der Dritte Raum. The space is designed by Swiss artist Mark Divo in his typical manner of an inhabited sculpture; it will be the social and communicative meeting point in the Kunsthalle.
Based on a collection of LPs and singles from the late 1970s and early 1980s Andrea Thal researches into a unique concentration of female music performers of this time; it was then that the female rock singer first came into life, breaking with all former cliches. For the performance in the Kunsthalle, Thal reanimates a piece of local music culture. The song Godzilla was one of the biggest hits by a band called Mother’s Ruin and was released on a Winterthur label. In the Kunsthalle the New York based musician and singer g.rizo performs a new interpretation of the song live; her performance will directly be cut into a dubplate that will then serve as a master for an edition of a few singles. In cooperation with Mother’s Ruin and g.rizo a newspaper about the song Godzilla will be produced.
Clare Goodwin has created an irritating buffet for this special evening. The artist intends the mixture of nicely designed nibbles and decorative objects from the 1970s to be a warm and friendly gesture to the public. Her gesture is symbolic for the whole evening that tries to establish a new piece of home in the Kunsthalle.
