Sofa- and Mediascape

Original Works, Periodicals, Trivia and Trouvailles

April 18 – June 27 2021

The sofa- and mediascape is open parallel to the exhibition in the main hall, and with the presentation of Franz Erhard Walther it welcomes a selection of new arrivals: on the monitors a TV debate from 1970 between Max Bense, Max Bill, Joseph Beuys and Arnold Gehlen; a laudation from Friedrich Dürrenmatt for Václav Havel (who received the Gottlieb Duttweiler Prize in 1990); a conversation between Franz Erhard Walther’s first and second wives Johanna and Susanne Walther; and Donkey Kong 3, a legendary computer game from the 1980s.
Further attention goes to Martin Kippenberger, represented with a comprehensive selection of the artist’s catalogues and books from the collection Christoph Schifferli, as well as a small scale version of the 1989 group show igitur curated by Christoph Schenker, featuring works by Ian Anüll, Max Bühlmann, Urs Frei, Ugo Rondinone, Christoph Rütimann, Adrian Schiess, Can Yasargil, and Daniel Zimmermann.
Besides the selection of further original works by Max Bill, Renate Bodmer, Claudio Conte, Bendicht Fivian, Leiko Ikemura, Hans Josephsohn, Adrian Schiess, Klaudia Schifferle, Franz Erhard Walther, and Aleks Weber, samples of Gerturd Vogler’s photographic oeuvre from the 1980s are on display. A selection of literature, catalogues and periodicals together with audiovisual contributions by Bazon Brock and Wolfgang Neuss complete the presentation.
